Caring For Your Synthetic Lawn

A well-cared-for synthetic lawn can save on water bills, requires no mowing, weeding, or fertilizing and competes with the aesthetic of a perfectly manicured natural lawn. So, keeping your synthetic grass in good shape benefits you and your home value. Now, a question we often get asked, how exactly do you care for an artificial lawn? We have our best tips for proper synthetic lawn maintenance here:

Remove leaves and debris from your lawn regularly

Removing dust, leaves, and debris regularly from your artificial turf allows it to look it's best while also keeping the grass from wearing. Use a stiff bristle broom, brush, or lawn rake to remove dirt and debris from your synthetic lawn. Refrain from using anything with steel bristles, so you don't damage your grass.

You might also use a leaf blower followed by rinsing the synthetic grass with a garden hose.

Use Turf Spray for Stains And Pet Runs

One caveat of artificial turf is that it cannot naturally sanitize itself, so the average pet owner will need to use turf spray to disinfect the area after their four-legged friends' regular use. While pet runs won't physically damage the integrity of the turf, the area can take on an unpleasant odor if left unattended.

Using artificial turf spray every other month and following up with baking soda and diluted water and vinegar should do just the trick.

Use A Weed Killer Twice Per Year

Applying a synthetic lawn to your existing lawn means that there is still a possibility of weed growth. Using an herbicide every six months will keep the weeds at bay, and your lawn will stay fresh and beautiful. Other options include weed-prevention mats, which are placed under the turf and need replacement every three to five years.

Keep Away From Fire Hazards

Synthetic grass is made up of often-flammable materials. Keep barbecues, fire pits, and fireplaces, away from direct or close proximity contact with your artificial lawn. By doing so, you alleviate hot coals or ash from burning your turf.

Other helpful know-hows to help your artificial lawn lasting longer and looking incredible include: trimming surrounding hedges and trees often, refraining from using harsh chemicals or alcohols on or near the grass, and brushing against the direction flattened grass to keep it perky.

Synthetic grass lawns require substantially less maintenance than a natural grass lawn. These simple tips will go a long way when maintaining your beautiful, new artificial turf.
